Academics
The culture of our program deems learning to occur in every setting in provision of care and health care teamwork. That said, we are structured to provide protected time for didactics, research, and administrative responsibilities of the residents.
The daytime team participates in multi-disciplinary rounds daily that includes the entire health care team of nurses, midwives, and other learners. Residents prepare discussions and short presentations for Socratic learning with faculty.
A weekly three -hour block every Thursday is devoted to lectures, research, Quality Improvement sessions, simulations, and administrative processes required of the residents. One session monthly is devoted to the Graduate Medical Education Alliance sessions. The residents also have the opportunity to participate in SEMCME offerings. These latter two organizations provide an interactive learning environment with other residents from Southeast Michigan, which our residents gain valuable exposure to their colleagues the expansion of perspectives such exposure provides.

Research Opportunities
Every day in medical practice brings questions that need asking and testing. Our residents are encouraged to ask those continually ask questions and think about ways to test those questions.
A research committee maintained by our residents and proctored by faculty provides the platform in which we teach the residents how to structure studies around research questions and utilize the resources of the Trinity system to gather data. Residents will be supported in producing a study project and manuscript sufficient for submission for presentation at national conference and publication. This is in parallel with Quality Improvement initiatives that are also ongoing part of the academic program.
